6.6  Modifications to infrastructure

The following modifications to assets have changed the descriptions of the assets, but have not changed their functions.

The pipe culvert that takes Boona 7 Supply Channel under Kidman Way was lengthened to improve traffic manoeuvrability at the intersection with Jimmy Cull Road.

Coleambally 2 Supply Channel was fitted with two constant level flow regulators.  This channel supplies water to horticultural blocks, and the installations will reduce escape flows.

6.6.1  Commissioning of new bridge and demolition of the old bridge

The new bridge over the Main Canal was completed and opened to traffic. The old bridge is due to be demolished in winter 2002.

6.6.2  Installation of flow meters to monitor deliveries to farms

On large area farms, CICL services 693 delivery points.  Up to January 2001, CICL had installed 117 flow meters.  These flow meters are of three types; 95 propeller meters (by Tempress & McCrometer), 36 of two types of ultrasonic flow meters (by MACE) and seven Irriflow® magnetic induction meters (by Tyco).

In the 2001 winter maintenance program, no dethridge wheels were replaced with flow meters.  By October a new flow-measuring device will be put on trial in five locations.  The flume gate by Rubicon Systems is designed to fit into the existing body of the dethridge wheel.  It records flow electronically, is radio controlled and adjusts its flow automatically.

6.6.3  Original long section design levels

The extension of the AHD levels through the CIA by the Surveyor-Generals Department and the subsequent surveying of assets associated with Whole Farm Planning has indicated that differences exist between the original long section supply channel levels and the present levels of supply infrastructure. Investigation of the effects of these differences using flow modelling is continuing. Rationalisation of assets may be required.
